Mumbai - Flamingo Watch

This had been on my wish list forever. Finally, headed one day with two enthusiastic colleagues to watch the pink beings take flight.

Just a few metres off Palm beach road, we came across a multitude of flamingoes.  This just didn't seem like a likely spot for these creatures to take refuge. But here they were..

Kumarakom - Coconut Lagoon

While we were driving around Kerala, I had asked the driver several times to show me places of heritage value, houses in particular. His constant reply was 'You see the houses around, that's all we have. People have torn down old houses and rebuilt with new 'pattern'. As expected, the term 'pattern' annoyed me and I tried to correct him once. I said its design. Eventually, I gave up.

Having said that, when I reached coconut Lagoon, I knew I had found exactly what I was looking for.

Coconut Lagoon is an untouched oasis. It is the purest place at Kottayam I've seen. The heat and humidity were spoilers as we visited in May. But then who would mind spending time reading in a heritage cottage while watching the houseboats pass outside.

The entire property has been put together with pieces of kerala's architectural heritage found around the length of the state.

Detail of the bathroom door latch.
There are several door details around the cottages. The washroom near the restroom area had a door handle in the shape of an elephant's head.

The sea food restaurant has fresh produce. It is quite pricey though.

Post sunset, traditional performances are held near the restaurant area. This one, in particular, was entertaining. And of course, the performer obliged to take pictures with the crowd later.

Oh the luxury of bathing in an open shower with mango trees outside. Unforgettable!

How I would love to go back for a massage here!

Say Hello to the smallest breed of cows in the world!

So we set off in boats while the sun was setting with the flute playing. When the sun is just about to set on the horizon, all the boats stand still. The music stops and you breathe in the beauty of the place.

Slowly moving waters, birds flying while gathering branches for their nests, giddy butterflies and dragon flies... Sometimes, the world is enough.

Munnar - Floral beauty

A couple of weeks before the Kerala trip, I bought a magnet from the flea market which read 'Stop and smell the roses'. And here I was, surrounded by floral bliss. Not only did I stop and smell the roses, I also managed to admire the honeybees on the flowers.

The organizers of the 'Munnar flower show' did a good job with creative displays of flowers. We on our part, did a good job posing around the lush displays.

It was my first day outdoors with the camera, and I found the prettiest subjects around to click away.

Munnar - Tea trails

It was just day one and we had already boarded a flight, flew down south, long drive starting with coconut tree views, kerala style lunch, shopping, visited the flower show and then we bumped into this tea estate where we discovered we could just walk in. The green energised us, considering we are surrounded by greys and browns in Mumbai. We both couldn't contain our excitement. Decided to try the timer, I set it, run, check, run back.. and what better place to mount the camera but the road... and then the madness began!!!

Munnar's most memorable visuals for me will be those we saw on the jeep drive up to 'Kolukkumalai tea estate. All shades of green, tiny pathways, narrow rocky roads and the valleys. While most people on other jeeps seemed to be driving to a destination, we were completely absorbed by the journey.
